From 2016 to 2021, I served as the consulting editor for Carilion Medicine, a startup biannual magazine for a regional health system. The executive editor—Carilion Clinic’s corporate communications manager—worked with the chief medical officer and a group of physician advisors to select content. I then collaborated with both the executive director and the art director on the editorial packaging. I also wrote and edited articles, researched content, and crafted assignment worksheets for freelance writers.

During that time, Carilion Medicine received several regional awards and an honorable mention in Folio Magazine’s national Eddie Award competition three years in a row.
